Jon E. Maki

Jon Maki is a senior associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation and Technology Transactions Practice Group in the firm's Del Mar office.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Maki focuses his practice on all areas of intellectual property law including patent, trademark and trade secret litigation, patent prosecution and transactional work such as due diligence and license agreements.

Mr. Maki's litigation experience includes representation of life science, medical device, Internet-based and other high technology companies in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and commercial disputes.  He has appeared before each of the California federal district courts, Delaware, the Western District of Wisconsin, and on briefing before the Federal Circuit. Mr. Maki has taken and defended numerous depositions, including expert depositions, and has briefed many motions including depositive and Markman motions. He has second chaired a significant trade secret trial and appeared at numerous Markman hearings and other motions.

Mr. Maki has significant experience in the preparation for Markman hearings and of expert witnesses for deposition and trial.  He has also led intellectual property due diligence and portfolio valuation in counseling investment and acquisition clients.  Mr. Maki advises clients regarding the development of their strategic patent portfolio and patent prosecution needs, particularly in the areas of biotech, medical device, and other high technology fields.
