David A. Maddux

David A. Maddux is Of Counsel in the firm's Los Angeles office.  Mr. Maddux has devoted his entire professional career to the practice of labor and employment law representing employers.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Maddux has represented financial institutions, airlines, restaurants, employer associations, contractors and subcontractors in the construction industry, and a wide variety of other businesses.  His clients have included a substantial number of the major department store and specialty store retailers in the United States for which he has handled labor and employment law matters in various parts of the country.

Experience

Mr. Maddux's practice has involved the handling of every type of National Labor Relations Board Proceeding including representation hearings, unfair labor practice trials, and representation of charging party employers in United States District Court injunction proceedings under Section 10(1) of The Act.  He has continually represented employers in maintaining a non-union status.  He has also represented many other employers having collective bargaining relationships in arbitration proceedings, court proceedings to resist arbitration or proceedings to vacate arbitration awards, and injunction actions for employers.

He has had extensive jury and non-jury trial experience in both state and federal courts in the field of labor litigation.  Among the cases handled by Mr. Maddux are major employment discrimination class actions having thousands of class members, multiple plaintiff age discrimination actions, single plaintiff employment discrimination actions, and actions against labor unions for malicious prosecution and illegal secondary boycott activity in which he has obtained favorable jury verdicts.  He has handled a wide range of wrongful discharge litigation.

Mr. Maddux has a unique perspective and first-hand insight into the Civil Rights Act of 1991, as he was asked by the National Retail Federation to give testimony before both the United States Senate and House of Representatives on this legislation.
