David E. Heisey

David Heisey is special counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in Sheppard Mullin's Del Mar Heights office.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Heisey's practice is devoted to the representation of life sciences and high technology clients with extensive experience in patent portfolio development.  David also has significant experience in opinion and counseling, due diligence, licensing, litigation, and trademark matters.

Mr. Heisey is a registered patent attorney with experience in prosecution of patents in a variety of technologies, including medical instruments, electromechanical devices, computers, computer software and accessories, business methods, online marketing/advertising, email filtering systems, semiconductors, thermoelectric devices, combustion engines, superchargers, advanced fabrics, catheter systems, stem cell injection systems, vascular stenting systems, systems for treating damaged spines, contact lenses, intraocular lenses, water purification systems, holography, document security systems, musical instruments, irradiation systems, and more.

Mr. Heisey has recently represented clients including Mitek Systems, Inc., Nextec Applications, Inc., Fujitsu Limited, MasterCard International, Kyocera Wireless, CODAN US Corporation, Transonic Combustion, Clean Energy Fuels Corporation and SynergEyes, Inc.

Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Mr. Heisey was associated with the San Diego offices of Luce Forward and Lyon and Lyon. In addition, Mr. Heisey was employed as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
