Maureen Corcoran is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group in Sheppard Mullin's San Francisco office.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Corcoran's practice focuses on the health care and life sciences industry, where she advises clients on the full range of legal issues. Her transactional and regulatory practice includes developing and implementing corporate compliance programs; counseling on fraud and abuse; advising on transactions that involve state or federal healthcare regulation. She also provides general corporate and transactional advice to health care companies and advice on health law regulation as well as corporate mergers and acquisition.
The wide range of health industry clients Ms. Corcoran has represented includes HMOs, health insurers, managed care companies, hospitals and hospital systems, physician organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, information technology providers, chain pharmacies, large employer health plans, clinical laboratories, long term care facilities, dialysis providers, clinical research organizations, health improvement research organizations, community clinics, hospice and medical device companies, among others. She regularly provides counsel on fraud and abuse; state regulation of health care providers and insurers; Medicare Part D; HIPAA; and ERISA issues for health benefit plans. In 2005, she moderated a panel for the American Health Lawyers Association on current issues in drugs and devices with compliance officers from large manufacturers and representatives from the Office of the Inspector General.
Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Ms. Corcoran was a partner and chair of the Health Care Practice team at the firm of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. She has also served as General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Education, and as Special Assistant to the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is a frequent lecturer before national healthcare organizations on issues pertaining to the health law field and has published numerous articles.
