Leonard S. Sorgi is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm’s New York office.
Areas of Practice
Mr. Sorgi's areas of concentration include patent, copyright, trademark and unfair competition law. His technical emphasis spans mechanical, electromechanical and medical devices, consumer electronics, and computer hardware, as well as business methods. He has particular expertise in managing highly complex patent litigation both in federal court and before the International Trade Commission.
Mr. Sorgi has successfully litigated and tried patent, trademark, and trade secret cases in district and appellate courts throughout the United States, involving various technologies including for example, medical devices, thermoplastic resins, hard disk drives, precision electric motors, VCRs, and financial software. Currently, Mr. Sorgi is representing a variety of high technology companies in district court patent litigation and in an investigation before the International Trade Commission.
Mr. Sorgi frequently lectures to various companies and legal and engineering societies on intellectual property law issues. Recent engagements include presentations in China and Japan on the subjects of U.S. patent litigation, litigation before the International Trade Commision, patent licensing, dispute avoidance and resolution, patent-claim drafting, IP issues in mergers and acquisitions, and seminars in the United States on patent opportunities and dangers for private investment funds, and mitigating the risks of countersuits.
