Rebecca L. Hanovice is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group of the firm's Del Mar Heights office.
Areas of Practice
Ms. Hanovice focuses her practice on complex intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution. Ms. Hanovice has represented large technology companies in patent infringement and trade secret litigation, and has experience managing discovery and substantive motion practice. Ms. Hanovice also has experience with trademark and false advertising litigation.
Ms. Hanovice is a registered patent attorney with experience writing and prosecuting patents for various technologies, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Prior to joining Sheppard Mullin, Ms. Hanovice was an associate at Bromberg & Sunstein LLP in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mformation Technologies, Inc. v. Research in Motion, Ltd. ("RIM") (Northern District of California) – Currently representing plaintiff patent owner Mformation in its patent infringement suit against RIM, accusing RIM's Blackberry devices and related software of infringing Mformation's patents covering remote management of wireless devices.
Quantum Corp. v. Riverbed Tech., Inc. (Northern District of California) – Represented plaintiff and cross-defendant Quantum in multiple patent infringement lawsuits against Riverbed regarding data storage products utilizing de-duplication technology. The matters were resolved in a global settlement that was very favorable to Quantum.
Hambrecht Wine Group, L.P. d/b/a Belvedere Winery, L.P. v. Millennium Import LLC (Northern District of California) - While at Bromberg & Sunstein LLP, represented plaintiff Hambrecht Wine Group against the importer of Belvedere Vodka in a breach of license and trademark infringement action. The case settled favorably for the plaintiff after the Court issued a summary judgment ruling in Hambrecht Wine Group's favor.
ScanSoft, Inc. v. Voice Signal Technologies, Inc. et al. ("VST") (Massachusetts) - While at Bromberg & Sunstein LLP, represented plaintiff ScanSoft, now Nuance, in its patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and unfair competition suit against VST. The case focused on speech recognition technology.
