Russell L. Reid, Jr. is a partner in the Finance and Bankruptcy Practice Group in the firm's New York Office.
Areas of Practice
Russell Reid's practice focuses on the areas of creditors' rights, bankruptcy, and corporate reorganization and refinance, with particular emphasis on default administration for trustees and servicers of securitized mortgagee trusts. On behalf of debtors, creditors, committees, indenture trustees and loan servicers, he has developed and negotiated disclosure materials and plans of reorganization, and has prosecuted and defended litigation involving the automatic stay, cash collateral, debtor-in-possession financing, plan confirmation and claim disposition.
Mr. Reid's experience has encompassed for a number of years the representation of the varied deal parties in the mortgage backed securities arena. His expertise includes the interpretation and enforcement of pooling and servicing agreements, swap agreements, trust indentures, insurance and indemnity agreements, and other related documents, as well as associated out-of-court restructurings and litigation.
Mr. Reid has handled an array of business disputes before state and federal trial and appellate courts and regulatory agencies, as well as before tribunals appointed by the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Securities Dealers. He has represented brokerage firms, real estate developers, retailers, regulated financial institutions, and servicers of both commercial and residential mortgage pools in a variety of actions, particularly those involving antitrust, breach of contract and/or fiduciary duty, business torts, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, public finance and securities.

- Represented the country’s largest chain of convenience retailers in restructuring $1.85 billion in indebtedness as a debtor in a prepackaged chapter 11 proceeding.
- Represented the official committee of unsecured creditors in the bankruptcy of one of the world’s leading satellite communications companies in litigation over the sale of its North American assets valued at approximately $1 billion.
- Represented a leading utility holding company in a $600 million lawsuit resulting from a failed merger.
- Represented a pharmaceutical manufacturer with more than $19.4 billion in annual sales and the second largest English language trade book publisher in the world in the defense of anti-trust claims totaling $400 million and $33 million, respectively.
- Represented a New York investor against two bankrupt corporations and their principals, ultimately resulting in a jury verdict for securities fraud in excess of $230 million.
- Represented a famous children’s character in actions nationwide against more than 700 defendants alleging copyright infringement, trademark and trade dress infringement, dilution of trademark, and unfair competition.
- Represented a special servicer of a securitized mortgage trust in a $12 million dispute over the modification of a $40 million loan facility secured by multi-family housing.
- Represented an indenture trustee for municipal securities in chapter 11 cases involving hospitals and multi-family housing.
- Represented a world leading manufacturer of cosmetics in product diversion litigation against rogue distributors.
- Represented a professional sports league in litigation to preserve licensing rights and royalties.
