Orientation & Mentoring

During the Fall, incoming associates will participate in a three-tiered orientation program, intended to address the needs of the associates as they arise. Each new associate will be able to hit the ground running after participating in a local orientation covering basics such as firm policies, benefits, library resources and information services. Once settled, new attorneys will attend programs regarding the annual review process and our professional development opportunities, a cost-efficient legal research workshop, and spend time with a panel of associates discussing time management, the assignment process and approaches to the practice of law.  Orientation will include reports by the firm's Chairman, Executive Director, General Counsel's Office, and Manager of Diversity and Inclusion about the current state of the firm, law firm and legal industry economics, ethics, and the firm's diversity program.

While the firm believes that associates must take control over their own career development, it is committed to provision of guidance and resources to associates as they chart their career path.  We provide a systematic program of professional education, designed to provide knowledge of substantive law and practical suggestions as to day-to-day legal practice.

As part of our professional development program, every new associate is assigned to a partner in his or her Practice Group who will serve as a formal mentor. The Partner Advisor will participate in all of the associate's performance reviews and work with the associate to develop an annual individual business / professional development plan.
