Not-for-Profit

Sheppard Mullin's Foundation/Not-for-Profit Team provides general business and tax advice to educational, public and religious charities such as Childhelp USA, the American Film Institute, Aids Project Los Angeles, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Mission Without Borders, Foundation for Global Sports Development and others. Our work includes:

  • Preparing applications on behalf of Not-for-Profit entities for tax exemptions and non-profit status under federal and state tax guidelines
  • Giving ongoing advice to prevent jeopardizing non-profit status
  • Helping non-profits joint venture on projects with other non-profits as well as for profit entities
  • Dealing with excess benefit and private inurement issues
  • Handling all aspects of unrelated business taxation issues
  • Drafting donation and sponsorship agreements
  • Providing guidance on non-profit governance and appropriate director and officer conduct, including compliance and disclosure issues, and
  • Reviewing Director & Officers liability and insurance issues.

We are actively involved with the non-profit organization, Foundation for Global Sports Foundation, that works closely with the International Olympic Committee and a variety of International Sports Federations on global sports development projects.
