Mark Blake is an associate in the Intellectual Property group in the firm’s Orange County office.  Mr. Blake specializes in all areas of intellectual property law, with an emphasis on patent litigation.

Areas of Practice

Mr. Blake's patent litigation experience has involved a range of technologies including electronics, digital signal processing, wireless communications, CDMA, GSM, video compression, hard drives, computer memory, power management devices, medical devices, print controllers, variable data printing, digital halftoning, software, audio, vehicle engines, medical devices and pharmaceutical.  Mr. Blake has experience at various aspects of litigation including: initial case evaluation; development of case strategy; written discovery; e-discovery; witness depositions; licensing; claim construction hearings; appeals; motion practice; and working with expert witnesses.  Mr. Blake also has experience with copyright, trademark and trade secret litigation as well as intellectual property transaction and prosecution projects.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Blake externed for the Honorable Judge Randall R. Rader at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and for the Honorable Judge Rudi Brewster at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

During law school, Mr. Blake worked for Qualcomm as a legal intern providing assistance and managing electronic discovery for patent infringement cases before the International Trade Commission and numerous U.S. District Courts.

Mr. Blake received his undergraduate degree from the Brigham Young University in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics.

  • MPEG LA v. Lenovo Group Limited (S.D.N.Y.). Represented Lenovo against the MPEG LA patent pool in a patent infringement action in the Southern District of New York related to MPEG video and audio compression technology.
  • Optimum Power Solutions LLC v. Apple Inc. et al. (E.D. Tex.) Represented the Lenovo in a multi-defendant patent case involving power management technology for solid state memory integrated circuits.  Successfully transferred case to the Northern District of California.
  • Microlinc, LLC v. Intel Corp. (E.D. Tex.). Represented Lenovo in a patent case involving computer architecture where we received a stay pending reexamination.
  • Reflex Packaging, Inc. v. Lenovo (United States) Inc. (N.D. Cal.). Represented Lenovo against claims of patent infringement related to thermoformed plastic computer cushions.
  • Masimo Corporation v. Philips Electronics North America Corporation (D. Del.). Represented Philips against Masimo’s claims of patent infringement related to pulse oximetry technology.
  • Seagate Technology v. Western Digital. Represented Seagate Technology in a trade secret misappropriation case related hard drive technology.
  • Kruse Technology Partnership v. Isuzu Motors Limited (C.D. Cal.). Represented Isuzu against Kruse's claims of patent infringement of Isuzu's diesel engines.
  • In Re: Halftone Color Separations (C.D. Cal.). Represented Electronics for Imaging against Acacia Research Group in a patent infringement action involving halftone printing solutions.
  • Tesseron v. Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (N.D. Ohio). Represented Electronics for Imaging in a multiple patent infringement action in the Northern District of Ohio concerning variable data printing technology. The lawsuit settled on confidential terms after the Markman hearing.
  • HIF BIO v. Yung Shin Pharmaceuticals. Represented a large Taiwanese pharmaceutical company in a lawsuit relating to misappropriation of pharmaceutical technology.
