Sheppard Mullin Gains Prominent Litigator, David R. Garcia

announced that David R. Garcia has joined the firm as partner in the Antitrust & Trade Regulations Practice Group in the Los Angeles office as of December 9, 2002. Mr. Garcia, who joins the firm from O'Melveny & Myers, where he practiced since 1990, brings with him superior expertise in antitrust, securities and entertainment law.

Mr. Garcia has broad experience in complex business and federal civil litigation. His comprehensive antitrust experience includes private litigation, client counseling in mergers and acquisitions and the representation of clients in civil and criminal investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and the antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Mr. Garcia's wide ranging antitrust litigation background includes significant matters involving monopolization, group boycotts, price fixing conspiracies, state action immunity, contested mergers and trade associations. Clients have included a major motion picture studio and its home video divisions, a motion picture trade association, a leading California public utility, a well known cable company, and large industrial companies.
Mr. Garcia's extensive securities experience, which began in New York, includes class action defense, derivative litigation defense on behalf of both companies and individuals, litigation arising out of mergers and acquisitions, and internal corporate investigations. He has also represented companies and individuals before the Securities and Exchange Commission. Clients have included investment banks, securities trading firms, banks, independent directors of a savings and loan institution, a large credit corporation, airline companies, special committees, and others.
Mr. Garcia received his law degree from Georgetown Law School in 1979, and his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from Harvard University in 1976. He is a member of the California, New York, Washington D.C. and Florida Bars. Mr. Garcia is involved in various Georgetown and Harvard alumni associations.
