01.20.2004

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP announced that Andrew Guilford has been appointed President of the Public Law Center’s Board of Directors, succeeding Philip Kohn. The Public Law Center (PLC) is Orange County’s pro bono, public interest law firm. For over 20 years, PLC has been devoted to achieving the goal of equal justice under law for Orange County’s poor and under-represented.

Guilford, past president of the State Bar of California and partner in the Business Trial Practice Group in Costa Mesa, was previously honored by the Anti-Defamation League for his contributions to improving indigent access to the legal system. He has also been named three times by the Daily Journal as one of California’s 100 Most Influential Attorneys.

"PLC has made a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of indigent families and individuals needing pro bono legal assistance. I look forward to serving as President of the Board of Directors and to building on the wonderful progress we have made under the leadership of Phil Kohn." He added, "I am fortunate to be at a firm which realizes the importance of and stalwartly supports pro bono participation."

Guilford, who has handled cases involving a wide variety of business matters, including technology, professional liability, real estate, finance and unfair competition, was also elected to the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship in the College is by invitation, extended only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skill as advocates and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, civility and professionalism. More recently, he was selected as Business Litigation Trial Attorney of the Year by the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association.
