Richard DeLossa is an associate with the Business Trials and Entertainment, Media & Technology Practice Groups in the Century City office.
Area of Practice
Mr. DeLossa’s practice focuses primarily on representing media/entertainment and corporate clients in a variety of commercial and intellectual property disputes as well as providing insurance coverage advice.
Prior to law school, Mr. DeLossa was a writer and producer of music videos, television commercials and broadcast promotions. He brings more than a decade of experience in the entertainment industry to his practice.

Representative Experience
Mr. DeLossa represents media/entertainment companies and corporate clients in a variety of litigation matters, including intellectual property disputes, participation accounting disputes, and commercial disputes. Some representative matters include:
- C3 Entertainment v. Columbia Pictures Television Inc.: Assisted partner Martin D. Katz in successfully representing Columbia Pictures Television at trial, and on appeal, against $27 million claim for breach of contract brought by the heirs of the Three Stooges. The trial court found in favor of Columbia and the California Court of Appeal affirmed.
- St. Paul Fire & Marine Ins. Co. v. Compaq Computer Co., 539 F.3d 809 (2008): Assisted partner Martin D. Katz in representing Compaq in a declaratory relief action. The district court granted Compaq summary judgment on its claim that St. Paul owed it a duty to defend a class action lawsuit arising from allegedly defective floppy disk controllers. The Eighth Circuit affirmed and also reversed the trial court’s order denying Compaq’s claim for eighteen percent statutory penalties under Texas’s Prompt Payment of Claims statute.
- Celador International Ltd. v. The Walt Disney Company: Part of the team representing ABC Television against claims of breach of contract and breach of the implied covenant in connection with the game show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
- Successfully represented Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in various participation accounting disputes.
- Successfully represented DHL in a breach of commercial lease case, which resolved favorably after mediation.
- Assisted partner Fred Puglisi in successfully defending Sprint/Nextel in various commercial disputes.
- Obtained a reversal by the District of Columbia Insurance Guaranty Corporation on its demand that our client, as a high net worth company, contribute in excess of $1 million dollars toward payment arising from a wrongful death claim after the client's insurance company became insolvent.
- Provide advice to Lionsgate on various insurance matters.
