Shannon S. King is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm's San Francisco and Century City offices.

Areas of Practice

Ms. King specializes in intellectual property, including counseling and enforcement of brands and other intellectual property assets and complex litigation of trademark and trade dress infringement, dilution, copyright infringement, and unfair competition matters.  She has successfully represented parties before all district courts in California as well as district courts in Ohio and New York.  Ms. King also represents clients in cease-and-desist matters as well as Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings.

Ms. King also has experience registering domestic and international trademarks, copyrights and domain names, assisting clients with DMCA and domain name disputes, conducting trademark and advertising clearances, and drafting trademark search opinions.  Her experience in transactional matters includes negotiating and preparing a wide variety of intellectual property agreements and conducting intellectual property diligence.  She has overseen worldwide policing programs for clients in the consumer retail and travel & tourism industries and also has experience with anti-counterfeiting actions in coordination with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Prior to joining Sheppard, Ms. King spent two years with the intellectual property litigation group at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP and three years with the trademark and copyright group at Heller Ehrman LLP.

  • Defended insurance company in copyright infringement action related to images of Aflac duck used in advertising campaign.  Craig Frazier Design, Inc. v. The Zimmerman Agency, LLC (N.D. Cal. Case No. 10-cv-01094)
  • Represented accessories manufacturer in trademark infringement action against online retailer importing goods from Asia.  Also oversaw successful court action in Germany against same entity.  Daymen Photo Marketing LP v. Chu (C.D. Cal. Case No. 2:10-cv-03294)
  • Represented national consumer retailer in trademark and trade dress infringement action involving color mark.  Permanent injunction entered against defendant.  OMS Investments, Inc. v. Smith (E.D. Cal Case No. 10-cv-01037)
  • Defended historical society in copyright action related to use of historical photographs.  Reached favorable settlement after filing motion to dismiss.  Schwartz v. Berkeley Historical Society (N.D. Cal. Case No. 3:05-cv-01551)
