The Chicago office of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton has an immediate opening for a senior-level litigation legal secretary in Labor & Employment to support an extremely busy desk of two partners and two associates. Deep expertise in the litigation process from soup-to-nuts and comfortable working with partners who need support during frequent travel. We are seeking a proactive "team player" with attention to detail and the desire to work in a fast-paced environment. The ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines is a must. Strong communication skills are required to interact with other professional staff, attorneys and clients.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Legal Secretaries perform a variety of general duties, including: transcription, typing, editing and proofreading correspondence and legal documents, entering attorney time, billing, electronic filing with the courts, answering telephones, sorting mail, coordinating travel arrangements, expense reimbursements, interacting with clients and maintaining files. We are looking for someone who is highly-motivated and able to add value to a customer-focused and team oriented environment. Qualified candidates will possess excellent legal secretarial skills, including strong organizational, technical and typing skills, along with an enthusiastic team player attitude and a high work ethic.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Extremely attentive to detail
  • Ability to handle calendars, time and expense, manage  CLE credits (general administrative duties)
  • Ability to create, review and revise pleadings (answers, complaints, discovery);
  • Experience with e-filing in federal and state courts and with hard-copy filing in other state courts;
  • Experience with administrative agencies (EEOC, DOL, etc)
  • Experience working with court clerks on filing issues
  • Ability to find case filings via PACER
