Joseph Sakai is an associate in the Business Trial Practice Group in the firm's San Francisco office.
Areas of Practice
Joseph’s practice centers upon complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on representing owners, developers, and financiers of commercial and large-scale residential properties. He also represents general contractors and subcontractors of commercial construction projects. Joseph negotiates contracts and agreements for land purchases, financing, development, and construction. He litigates breach of contract disputes, delay claims, and construction defect matters on behalf of developers, owners, and contractors.
Joseph also represents landlords in a wide range of negotiations and disputes. He drafts and negotiates commercial leases, land use agreements, and reciprocal easement agreements. He guides clients in disputes lodged by tenants and adjacent landowners, including litigation when necessary.
Joseph’s practice also includes representation of consumer finance and multinational companies against class action claims brought under the Class Action Fairness Act and related state laws. He appears on behalf of consumer finance companies in arbitrations and litigation against single and multi-plaintiff claims. In addition to representation in disputes, Joseph advises financial institutions in regulatory matters, including Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigation and enforcement actions.
His commercial litigation experience also extends to white collar and corporate governance matters. He litigates shareholder derivative suits and books and records actions in state and federal courts.
