Areas of Practice
Ms. Brooks’ practice focuses on complex civil litigation and class action defense in both state and federal court. Ms. Brooks works on teams representing national insurance companies, large hospitals, and prominent financial institutions. She represents these clients in a variety of matters, including breach of contract actions, wage-and-hour and consumer class actions, and construction disputes.
Ms. Brooks has an active pro bono practice, that includes immigration and non-profit employment matters. In her first year of practice, Ms. Brooks co-chaired as trial counsel in a conservatorship proceeding in San Diego Superior Court regarding whether a conservatorship over an individual should be reinstated based upon a finding that the individual was gravely disabled pursuant to California Welfare and Institution Code section 5450 et seq. Ms. Brooks delivered opening statements, examined the expert witness who testified at trial, and cross-examined the individual’s family members and friends. The trial resulted in a unanimous verdict for the County of San Diego.
During law school, Ms. Brooks interned at the National Labor Relations Board in San Francisco, where she conducted workplace investigations, managed union voting, and prepared recommendations for Board action to enforce compliance with the National Labor Relations Act. She also served as President of the Migrant Farmworkers Project, traveling to agricultural sites in central Virginia to communicate in Spanish with migrant workers about their legal rights.
Prior to law school, Ms. Brooks taught English at the University of Castilla-La Mancha in central Spain.
