Mark Catanese is special counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm's San Diego (Del Mar) office.

Areas of Practice

Mark’s practice is focused on preparation and prosecution of patent applications for clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, particularly in technological areas of consumer electronics, wireless communications, , satellite technologies, computer hardware, software, machine learning and artificial intelligence, robotic systems, display technologies such as LED and LCD displays, augmented and virtual reality, optical systems, semiconductor devices, medical devices, and automotive systems. Mark also has experience with IP licensing and negotiations, due diligence for patent portfolio acquisitions, non-infringement and invalidity analysis, and patent litigation.

Before attending law school, Mark worked as an engineer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory where he designed and tested complex laser detection and ranging systems for various missile defense programs. He has a bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering with minors in Electrical Engineering and Economics and a concentration in Semiconductor Materials and Devices, all from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
