Michael D. Wilburn is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm's Century City Office.
Areas of Practice
Mr. Wilburn focuses his practice on entertainment and intellectual property litigation. His intellectual property practice includes the representation of a number of studios, producers, artists, and other media and retail companies in cases involving trademark (including cases before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board), copyright, unfair competition, and right of publicity claims. Mr. Wilburn also represents clients in patent infringement actions and other technology-related matters.
His legal experience is complemented by 20 years of military service in the U.S. Air Force, where he distinguished himself as a combat instructor and evaluator pilot in the F 16 “Fighting Falcon” jet fighter aircraft. He also served as diplomat to the United Arab Emirates and German Air Forces through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales Program. As a USAF qualified safety officer and aircraft accident investigator, Michael led a team of specialists in the investigation, discovery and resolution of over 40 mishap investigations, including two catastrophic “Class A” mishaps where the aircraft were totally destroyed. In addition to his primary practice group focus, Mr. Wilburn is an accredited VA attorney and actively represents veterans on a pro bono basis.
Mr. Wilburn is a certified adjunct professor of aeronautical science and safety management for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he earned his master’s degree in aeronautical science. He maintains professional certification as an FAA air transport pilot and certified flight instructor, FCC radio operator and PADI divemaster.
