Joan Story Welcomed Back To Law School

Joan Story , partner in the Real Estate, Land Use, Natural Resources and Environmental Practice Group in Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP's San Francisco office , has accepted an invitation to serve on the Board of Directors of the University of California, Davis, School of Law Alumni Association.

The Board of Directors currently has 15 members, who represent the spectrum of graduating classes, as well as various sectors of the legal profession. The Board's primary goals are to provide outreach to the Law School alumni, to represent the alumni to the University, and to promote the interests of the Law School, which entails assisting with fundraising, student job placement, and student and faculty recruitment.

Story, who received her law degree from the Law School in 1977, said "I am delighted to accept this invitation, and look forward to working with the administration to raise the UC Davis Law School's profile in the Bay Area legal community. "

With specific expertise in real estate investment, financing and leasing transactions, Story handles land acquisition and development, construction, permanent and tax-exempt financings, joint venture and limited partnership formation, acquisition and disposition of commercial properties, leasing and other portfolio management issues, as well as loan and partnership workouts. Having developed a particular expertise in the hospitality area, Story represents both national hotel management companies and hotel owners. Her clients include institutional and foreign investors, pension funds and pension fund advisors, lenders and developers.

Story is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and of Lamba Alpha, the honorary land economics society. She also serves on the Real Estate Law Advisory Committee of the Practicing Law Institute (PLI), and on the California Advisory Board of Trust for Public Land.

An active lecturer, Story has participated in programs for California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), PLI, CLE International and other groups on subjects of concern to real estate practitioners. Story received her B.A. from Occidental College in 1965 and her M.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1967.
