James R. Hays has joined the New York office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's Labor and Employment practice group. Hays most recently practiced at Mintz Levin in New York.

"We are very excited to welcome Jim. He bolsters our firmwide traditional labor capabilities and adds depth to our New York employment practice," said Guy N. Halgren, chairman of Sheppard Mullin.

"Sheppard Mullin is a top-notch full service firm with a collegial culture that spans practice areas and offices," Hays commented. "I am impressed with the reputation, size and breadth of the firm's Labor and Employment practice group and firm management's support in growing it further. Hays' practice focuses on management-side labor and employment law. He represents clients in employment litigation in federal and state courts, as well as various arbitration forums, and in proceedings before various administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the United States Department of Labor, and state agencies throughout the United States. Hays also represents clients in collective bargaining negotiations, labor arbitrations, and all stages of the labor election process, including election campaigns and hearings before the National Labor Relations Board.

Hays advises and has represented clients in litigation concerning breach of non-compete agreements and theft of trade secrets. Hays regularly counsels clients on preparation and administration of personnel policies and employment strategies and compliance with WARN, FMLA, ADA, COBRA and other federal and state labor statutes.

Hays received a J.D. from New York Law School in 1990 and a B.A. from Catholic University in 1982.
