03.05.2012

Edward V. Anderson has joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm's 75-attorney Intellectual Property practice group, based in the firm's Palo Alto office.  Anderson joins from Sidley Austin in Palo Alto, where he led the firm's Northern California IP practice.  In January, partner Jill Pietrini joined Sheppard Mullin's Century City office from Manatt, where she previously chaired the firm's Intellectual Property practice group.  Special counsel George Kanabe joined from Fish & Richardson in Sheppard Mullin's Palo Alto office in January.

"Ed is a well-known and highly-regarded patent litigator, who has regularly been recognized among the top IP attorneys in Silicon Valley and nationwide.  He has represented many leading technology companies and has more than 30 years litigation and patent jury trial experience, including representing many clients before the International Trade Commission," said Guy N. Halgren, chairman of Sheppard Mullin.

"I am thrilled to join Sheppard Mullin and have been very impressed by the firm's strategic vision and the growth of the IP practice.  I look forward to helping Sheppard Mullin strengthen and continue to build its top-tier IP practice," Anderson commented.

"Ed joins Sheppard Mullin as part of our strategic goal to expand our patent litigation capabilities in Northern California and before the ITC.  He is a formidable IP attorney, and an excellent fit with the firm's collegial culture.  Ed also brings his prior experience building IP practices as the former managing partner and chairman of IP boutique Skjerven Morrill and as a founding partner of Sidley's Palo Alto office.  We are so fortunate to have him on board as we further strengthen and deepen our bench of IP attorneys,"  said Stephen S. Korniczky, co-chair of Sheppard Mullin's Intellectual Property practice group.

Anderson has represented national and international clients in the computer, semiconductor, telecommunications and software industries for more than 30 years.  He has extensive litigation and jury trial experience in complex intellectual property, antitrust and commercial cases before Federal, State and Appellate Courts, and before the International Trade Commission.  Anderson has provided counsel to a wide range of major and emerging technology companies in managing their intellectual property portfolios.

Anderson received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1978 and an A.B., with honors, with distinction, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University in 1975.
