Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Leader Liisa Thomas Releases 2019 Edition of Thomas on Data Breach: A Practical Guide to Handling Worldwide Data Breach Notifications Worldwide

February 15, 2019

The 2019 edition of Liisa Thomas's definitive treatise on data breach, Thomas on Data Breach: A Practical Guide to Handling Data Breach Notifications Worldwide is now available. The privacy and data security landscape continues to rapidly and dramatically change — GDPR is now effective in Europe, breaches continue to grow in scope and scale, and both regulator and media attention to companies who experience breaches is sharpening — and this volume has been updated accordingly.

This 2019 edition contains several in-depth updates and expansions, including new and revised maps highlighting legal breach obligations; updates reflecting the realities of notice obligations under GDPR; expanded footnotes with citations to specific sections of relevant laws; significantly expanded discussion on the requirements to protect personal information; and a reorganization to the sections on when a company might decide not to notify.

The latest edition also includes updates to reflect changes in the following jurisdictions: Alabama, Arizona, Brazil, Canada, Colorado, Costa Rica, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, The Netherlands, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Taiwan and Vermont.

Since its initial launch in 2014, Liisa’s book has become the go-to resource for anyone navigating data breach waters. It is described as “a no-nonsense roadmap for in-house and external practitioners alike.”

The 2019 edition can be purchased on Westlaw (database ID DATABREACH) or at ThomsonReuters.com here.
