Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is pleased to announce that John Marston has joined the firm as a partner in the Governmental Practice, based in the Washington, D.C office. Marston joins from Foley Hoag LLP.

A former federal prosecutor, Marston has led numerous investigations and tried more than 50 civil and criminal cases to verdict. Marston also brings specialized experience in federal tax investigations and trials, and he has defended clients in front of a wide variety of government agencies on substantive issues, including bankruptcy, securities, antitrust and federal and state criminal matters. His experience extends across industries including life sciences, finance, energy, professional services and non-profits.

“The firm has experienced significant growth and an uptick in demand in investigations and white collar defense, and John’s substantive experience will add additional depth to our bench-strength that is welcomed by our clients and our practice group,” said Luca Salvi, chair of Sheppard Mullin." We are thrilled he has joined the firm and look forward to putting his trial skills and investigative knowledge to great use.”

Marston spent five years as an Assistant United States Attorney and served in the Fraud and Public Corruption division, where he gained significant experience in government investigations. He also was a lawyer at an international law firm where he litigated cases against the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Justice in tax court and federal trial courts.

“We have had the pleasure of knowing John and watching his work for many years,” said Jonathan Aronie, co-leader of the firm’s Governmental Practice. “As a result, we can say with great certainty that he will be a welcome addition to the firm and to our clients.”

Marston received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Wheaton College and his J.D., summa cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Cornell Law School.
