Sheppard Mullin is proud to announce that the firm has achieved Mansfield 5.0 Certification Plus designation after completing Diversity Lab’s 12-month certification program.

The “Plus” designation indicates that in addition to meeting or exceeding the baseline Mansfield Rule requirements, Sheppard Mullin has successfully reached at least 30 percent of historically underrepresented lawyers – women lawyers, racial and ethnic lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities – for appointments to leadership committees and roles, equity partner promotions, senior lateral positions and formal client pitch opportunities. Notably, this is the fifth consecutive year – dating back to the inception of the Mansfield Rule in 2017 – that Sheppard Mullin has achieved Certification Plus status.

“Diversity and inclusion at Sheppard Mullin is about going above and beyond meeting the certification requirements,” said Sheppard Mullin chair Luca Salvi. “We are steadfast in our commitment to ensure that all of our talented attorneys receive fair access to advancement opportunities.”

“We are focused on maintaining a truly inclusive environment in which our lawyers and staff can do their best work by continuing to hold ourselves accountable,” said Rena Andoh, chair of firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

The stated goal of the Mansfield Rule is to boost the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities. Diversity Lab launched the inaugural pilot of the Mansfield Rule in 2017 with around 40 large law firms. Versions 2.0 through 6.0 (the current iteration) were launched each year thereafter, with the requirements of each iteration building on the years prior.

Sheppard Mullin is also one of the firms nationwide participating in Mansfield Rule 6.0 Certification that launched in July 2022.

Sheppard Mullin’s commitment to diversity and inclusion has been often recognized, including:

  • 2022 Inclusion Blueprint Champion by Diversity Lab

  • Seramount-Working Mother Magazine’s 2022 “Best Law Firms for Women”

  • 100% rating by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for 12 consecutive years

  • Ranked #11 on Law360’s 2022 Diversity Snapshot in the law firm category

  • Ranked a “Top Performer” by Leadership Council on Legal Diversity for six consecutive years
