Fred Qiu is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group in the firm’s Silicon Valley office.
Areas of Practice
Fred’s practice focuses on patent portfolio development and AIA post-grant review proceedings. He also has experience in district court patent litigation, Federal Circuit appeals, ITC investigations, reexaminations, IP licensing, and strategic IP counseling.
Patent portfolio development: Fred helps U.S. and Chinese high-tech companies develop global patent portfolios. Leveraging his technical background and industry knowledge, he prepares and prosecutes patent applications in blockchain and web 3.0 services, machine learning and artificial intelligence, cloud computing, semiconductor devices, and networking solutions. Fred’s litigation experience allows him to address potential weaknesses during patent prosecution and obtain high-quality and defensible patents.
AIA post-grant review proceedings: Fred represents companies in all phrases of inter partes review proceedings and resulting appeals. He has worked on disputes involving computer architecture, wireless communications, streaming media, cryptography, robotics, and medical equipment. He focuses on conducting thorough and rigorous technical analysis and presenting complex legal and technical theories in an accessible manner.
