New Lateral Partner Offers International Experience

The law firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP announced today that Jerry Gumpel has joined the firm’s San Diego office as a lateral partner. He will practice in the Corporate and Securities Department, effective immediately.

Gumpel comes to Sheppard Mullin from the San Diego office of Zevnik, Horton, Guibord, McGovern, Palmer & Fognani, where he had been a partner. Gumpel brings with him an established International Corporate and Real Estate law practice, including significant experience with complex corporate, real estate and international business transactions.

Gumpel's practice emphasizes international business transactions. Representative matters include his role as outside general counsel to a telecommunications courier with operations throughout the NAFTA area, the Caribbean and Central America. Gumpel has significant expertise in cross-border and multinational corporate transactions, international tax planning, broadband and wireless telecommunications. Gumpel also represents foreign real estate developers, manufacturers and financial institutions with U.S. operations, as well as foreign clients who access U.S. technology, know-how and capital sources. His domestic clients include automobile dealerships and a national healthcare organization.

Gumpel is fluent in Spanish and German. He is former Chair of the Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League and currently is a National Commissioner. He graduated cum laude from the University of Chicago School of Law after earning Masters of Arts and Masters of Law and Diplomacy degrees from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California San Diego, from which he graduated with highest honors.
