09.28.2017

Kari M. Rollins has joined the New York office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the firm’s growing Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. Rollins joins Sheppard Mullin from Winston & Strawn LLP.

Rollins’ arrival follows another recent addition to the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. Earlier this week, Liisa M. Thomas joined the firm’s Chicago office as a partner and co-leader of the Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. Thomas also joined from Winston & Strawn.

"Kari joins Sheppard Mullin as part of our ongoing strategy to expand our full service privacy and cybersecurity capabilities. She is an outstanding litigator and brings essential skills and knowledge that will greatly benefit our clients on the East Coast and firm wide. Kari and Liisa make a terrific duo, and we’re thrilled that they’ve joined the firm," said Guy N. Halgren, chairman of Sheppard Mullin.

"I’m excited to join Sheppard Mullin and continue practicing with Liisa," said Rollins. "I was attracted to the firm's global footprint, strategic vision and commitment to the continued growth of its already well-established privacy practice."

Rollins focuses her practice on privacy and complex commercial litigation matters. She has successfully represented clients in the financial services, audit and accounting, food services, retail and fashion industries before state and federal courts, as well as in front of state attorneys general, federal regulators, and U.S. and international commercial arbitration forums. Rollins has conducted multiple internal investigations in data breach matters. She also assists clients in determining if the facts in their cases gave rise to a duty to notify under data breach notification laws, and advises them post-investigation in handling any litigation or regulatory inquiries arising from the breach.  Rollins currently sits on the Drafting Committee of the Sedona Conference WG11 on Data Security and Privacy Liability, which is responsible for drafting and publishing the Sedona Conference WG11 Incident Response Guide, a practitioners guide to navigating the law and issues relating to, preparing for, managing and responding to data breaches. Rollins earned a J.D. (summa cum laude) from DePaul University College of Law and a B.S. from Butler University.
