Sheppard Mullin congratulates Sidewinder Films and the Foundation For Global Sports Development for receiving a 2023 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Historical Documentary for its educational film “Waterman.”
“Waterman” tells the mostly-unknown story of five-time Olympic medalist and Native Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who shattered records and brought surfing to the world, all while overcoming rampant racism in a lifetime of personal challenges. Few outside Hawaii know the details of this inspiring story and Duke’s considerable impact to society worldwide. Surfing was first included in the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympics Games – a fitting tribute to his work promoting the sport around the globe.
