Hotel development hurdle gaining momentum

Land Use partner Jodi Stein spoke with Crain's New York Business in connection with a New York City proposal that would impact new hotel development in certain districts.  If passed, the law could limit the number of new hotels in the city by requiring developers to go through a lengthy public-review process, requiring community signoff, and secure a special permit before building if the hotel is to be built in a commercial zone.

According to Stein, "Developers of existing hotels are eager to see this approved, while those who want to build in the future are hoping it doesn’t pass. New hotel projects would have the higher hurdle of community permission before building."
