New York has become the first state to add a requirement mandating that lawyers take legal education courses in cybersecurity, privacy and data protection. Julia Kadish, lead associate of the firm's Privacy and Cybersecurity industry team, spoke with Legaltech News indicating that "while New York is leading the way by mandating a specific cyber requirement, states pushing to update lawyers’ education to keep up with societal trends is nothing new."

“I do foresee that some other states would follow suit. I think there’s been trends in that … some other specific categories have been added in the past couple of years like diversity, inclusion, mental health and substance abuse requirements, things like that started to emerge in a couple of different state bars,” Kadish added. “So I suspect New York won’t be the last.”
