Dallas Continues Growth with White Collar, Investigations and Complex Litigation Partner

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is pleased to announce that Amanda L. Cottrell has joined the firm’s Business Trial practice group as a partner in the Dallas office. Cottrell joins from Stanton LLP.  Prior to that, Cottrell spent nine years practicing commercial and energy litigation at Locke Lord LLP.

Sheppard Mullin opened its doors in Dallas in April 2018 with 18 attorneys. Over the last 12 months, the office has grown to 27 attorneys whose diverse practices include commercial litigation, corporate, intellectual property, labor and employment, real estate and white collar criminal defense.

Commenting on the Dallas office’s growth, Jon Newby, vice chairman of Sheppard Mullin, said, "We set up shop in Dallas a little over a year ago, and the office has grown quickly, both in terms of lawyers and workload.  We’re continuing to focus on expanding our footprint in Dallas, and Amanda is the latest example of the success we’re having in attracting talented members to join our team. We’re thrilled she’s joined us."

"Amanda has a broad repertoire, having represented clients in commercial litigation, as well as white collar litigation and internal investigations across several industries," said Paul Werner, partner and leader of the firm’s Business Trial practice. "Her proven track record of successfully representing large companies in their most critical matters makes her an ideal fit."

Cottrell’s practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, internal investigations, and complex commercial litigation. She has represented numerous companies in state and federal court. She routinely defends energy and natural resources companies in commercial disputes, focusing on property, contract and accounting issues. Cottrell has also assisted clients facing potential civil or criminal charges related to Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), antitrust, fraud and export matters. She has managed and participated in numerous multinational investigations with sensitive timelines and deliverables.

Cottrell earned her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and her B.A., summa cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.
